Through the Captain's Eyes
Geography Made Calico Rock
The virgin Pine forests harvested for lumber, cotton grown in the gentle hills, and the animal furs and pelts provided the resources to make Calico Rock an economic boomtown. By 1940, Calico Rock was the economic center of the region with booming businesses and commerce.
It was so successful and full of so much promise, that the railroad decided to blast their way along the White River past Calico Rock, choosing it as a location for rail service.
Calico Rock was booming because of the landscapes that set her apart, give her the unique name, and continue to draw people in today.
